Manifesto

Today, young people across the globe are rising for their future. LYFE is a social movement in Lancaster (UK) which unites and empowers young people to engage in environmental and political issues locally. The latest IPCC report detailed the devastating effect of a 1.5°C temperature rise, as nations across the world already suffer the effects. As a coastal District, Lancaster will feel the impact of rising seas and increased extreme weather and flood events. With the seas predicted to rise up to 1m in just 30 years, action to curb our carbon emissions is vital.

LYFE wants to raise awareness about the climate emergency globally and locally by:

  1. Providing the youth of today with the opportunity to reclaim power for their future;
  2. Encouraging political engagement across parties and political boundaries to achieve collaborative action;
  3. Connecting local initiatives and efforts to a wider youth movement of environmental activism across the world.

The group aims to see these objectives take shape through the implementation of tangible actions such as, mobilising the community by having them occupy theMorecambeTown Hallon 30thJanuarywhenmotions calling for a climate emergency to be declared by the Lancaster District will be debated. LYFE will be providing visibility for current local efforts through media platforms encouraging community outreach. It also intends to show support for Greta Thunberg through partaking in the ‘Friday for Future’initiative, which calls on young people internationally to come together and protest the systematic inaction of governments. Moreover, LYFE will facilitate participation in local elections by helping students register to vote and proving information on local councilors. It also aims to organise a number of protests addressing local climate issues such as fracking and fossil fuel funding.

LYFE aims to empower, unite, and engage young people across Lancaster in the fight against climate change For Our Future.
